Celebrating My Body: In The Midst of Growth & Struggle.

Topic: Body Positivity

YAAAAAS, to Body Positivity! It's absolutely necessary to celebrate your body AS IS!

Body Positivity is unapologetic activism that begins with me/you/we.

Why is "Body Positivity" SO crucial in my life?

Let's start by defining body positvity:

"Body positivity means accepting the body you have as well as the changes in shape, size and ability it may undergo due to nature, age, or your own personal choices throughout your lifetime. It's the understanding that your worth and what's going on with you physically are two separate entities-- that no matter what's happening inside, outside or to your body, you're still worthwhile (you are still worthy) as the next person next to you." - Mallorie Dunn, Founder of the body positive fashion line SmartGlamour My personal reflection of Celebrating my Body in the Midst of Growth & Struggle: Due to a not so recent (2017), car accident that caused an invisible injury to my lower and upper back, it has been extra difficult to be sustainable within my fitness and exercise. In the midst, of healing this injury via my hella dope wellness dream team that consists of: a general practitioner, chiropractor, massage therapist and and a mental health therapist a.k.a. (also known as) my "therapeutic life coach" - I am healing my BEST LIFE!

Yet, within this healing includes digging deep to celebrate my body's current size, weight and anguish that it undergoes when I attempt to exercise as a result of my back's muscle inflammation, spasms or "flare ups." UGH! and YIKES!

It's been SO helpful to visit with my dream team of healers because every piece of me IS HEALING and this process continues to allow me to accept my body AS IS!

Honestly, having a mental health therapist (participating within therapy) has been highly instrumental in my life of embracing greater body positivity. It has helped me to interrupt negative self-talk, track any emotional eating and/or interrupt my participation within any body shaming or guilt. Most of all, this sacred space of healing provides me with the time to give myself grace and unapologetic permission to continue to LOVE myself.

Visiting with my general practitioner has helped me really focus upon being heart healthy and making sure that I participate within my doctor's recommendations and receiving preventative care to ensure that I continue to focus upon my heart's health in lieu of body shaming and/or guilt. Most of all, eating healthier and participating with exercise that celebrates my body. Y'all I LOVE DANCING!

Finally, when I visit with my chiropractor and massage therapist. I am able to continue to participating within my healing. Receiving a therapeutic massage after a weekend of DANCING is LIFFFFFE!

My question to you... How are you participating within Body Positivity?
